Fractured Fairytales
This is a fun, fast-paced workshop program that supports the work teachers do with narrative. Students will learn how narrative can be expressed both verbally and non-verbally, as they work in small groups to give well-known fairy tales their own twists!
Session 1 – Body Shapes / Team Work & Tableaux
Students learn quick fire imagination and warm up games. Then, in pairs, they learn how to represent characters and objects physically. In groups, they apply this non-verbal understanding to work with well-known fairytales, creating tableaux that represent Orientation, Complication and Resolution.
Session 2 – Improvisation Games / Blocking / Scripting
Now, student groups re-imagine the same fairytales using the magic ‘No You Didn’t’ improvisation game. They then begin ‘blocking’ and scripting their fractured tales and discuss what props and costumes they may need for their performances.
Session 3 – Rehearsal & Performance
The last session is all about rehearsing the fractured fairy tales for performance. The presenter will allot quality time with each group to help them shape and polish their performance. Some teachers choose have another class as audience.
