The Five-Day Play

DSC_5617
Five Day Play, October 2013

This is a fun and very fast paced play-building program that introduces students to brainstorming, teamwork and scripting techniques. Students take ownership of the creative process, using a preferred genre and issue to create and present original work.

Session 1

Games for Actors ● Lateral Thinking Exercises  Brainstorm
Students take part in a series of games for actors designed to free the imagination. They brainstorm ideas around genres and issues, selecting one for development.

Session 2
Narrative & Structure
 ● Press for Depth ● Team Improvisation
Students learn the ins and outs of different narrative structures and how these might apply to their story, then work on their feet developing scenes to present to each other, further honing their ideas as they go.

Session 3
Recording & Writing
 ● Industry Formats ● Team Writing & Roles
Students learn different ways to record ideas, and industry standard scripting formats. Roles for the following rehearsal sessions (actors, director, writer) are chosen.

Sessions 4 & 5
Group Work
 ● Rehearsing ● Performing

The group works either as one performance team with our presenter in director role, or in a number of smaller groups on individual scenes, in the buzz of the rehearsal process, then they perform to each other or a class of their peers.
