With double the enrolments, double the performances, and what felt like TRIPLE the enthusiasm, RED ROAR’s January School Holiday Workshop has got families in the Inner West asking for Easter dates already! After brainstorming genres and themes, students in mixed age groups from 6 years old to twelve years old worked together to devise, write, rehearse and perform two original plays, MONKEY SEE MONKEY DO and SHARK ATTACK, both of which were very well received by families at the wrap-up showcase on Friday 6th of January. By the following Monday we had received many messages from parents anting to know the dates for Easter! One mother shared a conversation she had with her two daughters – both of whom had attended:
K (aged 9): I really wish we could do the Red Roar Drama Camp every day … you know … instead of school!
M (aged 6): Oh … Me too! Can we? Can we?!!
Other parents who had thought their kids ‘too-cool-for-drama-school’ have reported their surprise on hearing such positive feedback from them, one saying how her 9 year old boy has been ‘thrusting the script that he kept as a memento onto all visiting relatives and friends, he is just that proud of it!’
We think the secret ingredients that our facilitators throw in to a Red Roar School Holiday Programme are:
1) Passion,
2) Listening,
3) Fun,
4) Support.
When young people are engaged and have true ownership, they are most happy, and out of that happiness, their confidence grows.
We can’t wait for the next School Holiday Programme which is set now for April 14-18 at Newtown Public School. Earlybirds Book Now! Email director@redroar.com.au or Call Gavin Vance on 0467375368 to find out more!
We are also running After School Drama Programmes at Newtown Public School on Wednesdays (for Yr 3-6 students) and Thursdays (for K-2 students).
